(November 20, 2018, 4:58 pm)The shishi-odoshi (boar-scare) at Butchart Gardens is a very nice touch. The gardens are beautiful and well maintained, though they can be over-crowded. The Japanese Garden might be described as a British Columbian garden in the style of a traditional Japanese Garden. The fusion of indigenous Pacific Northwest flora and Japanese aesthetics is fascinating and beautiful, but visitors should not expect a purely Japanese design. Five stars for the gardens, less one star for the crowds.
