  Dave Hoover's passion for karate shines in each class at Whiteheron Martial Arts. It has been nothing short of amazing watching my son come into his own since starting to study karate. Sensei Dave's patience and encouragement have taught him so much more than self defense. The foundation is respect, and all else builds on that: sportsmanship in their congratulations for accomplishments and commiseration on attempts; self confidence on acquiring well-earned stripes and belts; self determination in setting goals, knowing that they've accomplished something by simply trying. Sensei teaches that karate is part of everyday life, not just life in the dojo, applying all those lesson to school and home. It's serious work approached with humour and fun, which is what keeps my son running for his gi every class.

  Sensei Dave is amazing. He truly is teaching these adults and kids because of his love of Karate. He brings so much to the classes every week. Both of my kids absolutely love going (age 9 and 15).

  We're so glad we found White Heron Martial Arts. Our 10 year old son loves the program and we all agree that Sensei Dave is a great teacher. Not only does our son get a good physical workout, but he's also learning self-control and discipline. It's good to see him working towards goals and knowing that he will only be given his next stripe or belt when he earns it. I love seeing the kids congratulate each other when someone succeeds at earning their next stripe or belt, even though they may have not earned their own. It's a great atmosphere in the class and it's been good to see our son make friends with a wide age-range of kids. He's eager to go twice a week and never complains.

  Our son has been a student at White Heron Martial Arts for 6 months and he can't wait for karate to start again in the fall! Sensai Dave Hoover has been very encouraging and very patient, for which we are grateful!
