As first time parents we had a million questions and worries running through our minds so having April available to come over, answer our calls or reply to our texts was amazing. April was knowledgeable, helpful and attentive.
The peace of mind in knowing that there is someone you can reach out to at anytime who can give you personalized feedback and advise is invaluable.
Wow. What can I say. We had a fabulous experience with April. It was our second birth, and I had to do a lot of convincing with my husband to hire a doula. My first was with an OB with just my husband as my support person and we had a pretty traumatic birth experience with complications so I really wanted to enjoy and try as much as possible to have a better birth the second time around.
From the moment we met April I could sense her calm and positive demeanour and knew how valuable this would be in the labour process. Her knowledge and passion for being a doula and attending births was evident from the start.
For the actual labour part - April’s role was invaluable. She kept me calm and focused throughout and her “bag of tricks” to help with the pain was amazing. When one thing wasn’t working she was quick to offer up another suggestion. She was never pushy on certain things and always valued my input. She worked well with the nurses doctors and my husband throughout the labour. My husband even reports she was worth her money and beyond during the labour (and he was the skeptic before).
I managed to have a completely drug feee vaginal birth which was my goal (I almost caved at 8cm but april coached me through). The sense of accomplishment I felt and how supported throughout the process I felt was amazing. I would hire her again if we have a third without thinking !
April also stayed afterword to initiate breastfeeding and answer any questions I had. She was also available by phone when we got home and was quick to answer any questions I had. She also completed two visits post partum which also helped to answer any remaining questions I had.
I can’t recommend april enough !!
We can’t express how much we absolutely love our experience with April. There are lots of things to decide and invest in when it comes to a new baby - investing in having April with us was the most important and best decision we made so far.
April’s calm and confident demeanor, coupled with her vast experience and knowledge, empowered us as new parents to feel secure and safe during the entire labor and postpartum process. April made sure we had the tools we needed before labor, was available for any questions (even the stupid ones!) and always approached everything with a non-judgmental perspective. She made sure to work with us around our birth wishes and help guide us through what to expect.
During labor, April was my hero! She was there to provide help around positions I should try, pressure points and was a calm voice to have alongside. She also made sure my partner had a role and felt involved in the whole process. April’s calm confidence and knowledge, made us feel the same.
Postpartum, April’s has been such a great help to turn to for advice and knowledge. We really feel that we’ve been set up for success with our new baby thanks to April. Right after labor, she helped us latch for the first time, making breastfeeding going forward a great experience. April has also helped us with giving the bottle for the first time, showed us how to use carriers and SO many more things. She is always available for questions and so great at providing unbiased advice.

April Kowaleski was our doula during Anna’s pregnancy and labour. We came up against a wall before we met this wonderful woman - that wall was our experience with our obstetrician which we had before having April in our lives. With our OB we were withheld from the nurturance and care that we expected during this treasured time in our lives. Anna and I did countless hours of research and reading to o er our baby (Reid) the best opportunity to be the healthiest and happiest possible and so we knew we wanted the best service and connection we could get in one of our care providers. Our relationship with our OB felt at arms length right from the beginning, we needed contact and support with our important questions and concerns, for example, and it was nearly impossible for our OB to provide this. It wasn’t until we went to April’s doula introductory meeting that we knew we would receive the satisfaction of care we desired - what an uplifting feeling we received from the very first moment we met her.
April was to Anna and I a beacon of knowledge and support, her confidence was empowering and provided us with strength just when we needed it most. For me, I found myself a bit in awe of her abilities. She exemplified years of professionalism. We knew right from the first visit with her that we would be a orded the deeper, more satisfying pregnancy-care experience we wanted. From that visit on every single time we had April with us we were impressed. We called and messaged her from time to time to receive guidance and answers to our questions without wait. This was only an inkling of the support we were given. During Anna’s labour April was a rockstar, reassuring us both and providing truly incredible care! She stayed up late with us and continued her professionalism throughout providing natural pain relief tactics for Anna.
Once Reid was born we felt confident going into the first few days with our newborn but we came across some di culty in breast-feeding and had concerns about our son’s possibility of getting jaundice. April came to our house for the in-home visit to help us with our concerns. We were given truly incredible techniques for breastfeeding and now Anna is a champ at it! April also helped in relieving her engorged breasts when the milk started coming in fast. What a relief!
Anna and I now only ask ourselves why anyone would separate themselves from this inspirational love and awe. We tell everyone now that the one piece of advice we could give for pregnancy is to get a doula! If you’re lucky enough to receive the care of April Kowaleski consider yourself in the best possible hands you could be in. April, you were truly remarkable, we love you (how is that possible we just met you?) and thank you so very much.
