Great shop, great knives and good service if you're spending money. I bought two knives from Hatcher & Krain over the years and love them both.

Unfortunately the owner always seems a little reluctant to help if you do have a credit card ready. Don't bother calling if your from out of town, you cant get prices over the phone...

Great selection of very high quality knives and super knowledge and personal service. Tough to beat if you're looking for a really good knife.

Highly recommended. If you like a good knife, then this is the place to learn all about what 'good' means - origins, philosophies, manufacturing techniques, functionalities . . . before you select the right one for you from the excellent, curated collection of knives for sale. At least that's what I did yesterday, and chopping veg last night was a thing of joy. :)

Looking for a high quality knife you will love for years? This is THE place to go. Greg knows his stuff. Tried and true alongside new brands. I just got a carbide single edge that is unbelievable. I stand impressed.

I came to Hacker and Krain a long long time ago to purchase a chef knife. I recently came back to get the same knife sharpened, and as usual, this was an incredible experience.

The shop owner is an extremely knowledgeable person. Not only will he walk you through the process of purchasing a kitchen knife (it's not as easy as you may think) he will also tell you wonderful stories about the history of the knife you are about to purchase.

All knives come with a "lifetime promise" that the shop will not charge for sharpening something you purchased at their store. Almost 5 years later, the shop owner stayed true to that promise (no receipt required, of course).

You can also visit this store to sharpen knives that you have purchased elsewhere. There is no charge for this, but the owner will ask that you kindly place a donation for paediatric cancer research. What a wonderful idea!

There are both Western style and Japanese style knives on display, as well as a few pocket and steak knives. I personally don't remember them all, so you will have to visit them to get the full list.

I would definitely recommend this shop for anyone who is passionate about cooking, and even if that is not the case, I would still drop by on a day off to enjoy some wonderful stories and check out a very interesting store!
