I participated in an international exchange between Kirov, Russia and Port Hope, Ontario in 1998. Coming from a working class background, immigrant boat people parents and not feeling like I ever fit in Canadian culture before this exchange, the program opened my eyes to many opportunities to experience different levels of interpersonal communication, global development on small community scale, develop friendships with others from different socio-economic and cultural values than I had previously experienced. Overall great experience. I still keep in touch with some of the friends I made during the exchange over 20 years ago now.
