Academy for Mathematics & English, Bramport

I am an OCT Certified teacher for Mathematics and French at the intermediate/senior level. I have been working at The Academy for Mathematics and Science for 4 years as a high school Mathematics tutor. At The Academy, identifying student needs is where it all begins. The teaching is customized to each student, keeping in mind his/her gaps in understanding. I appreciate the attention that is given to ongoing assessment of student understanding. This makes for a unique learning experience of the student and allows me to get creative as a teacher. Although, filling prior gaps in knowledge is regular practice, challenging the students and pushing their abilities forward is also given a lot of importance. I feel honoured to be teaching in an environment where student success is not only measured in grades but, also by students' confidence in their new acquired knowledge.

I have been a teacher at The Academy for 2 years. What I appreciate most is the emphasis on the growth of each student, not just academically, but in their confidence. A great amount of care is taken in first assessing the students' needs, including gaps in understanding and learning style.
Each child receives direct guidance from the teacher during their lesson, as well as regular practice, quizzes and homework to track progress. I especially appreciate that the Ontario curriculum is followed for each course, and lessons can be planned accordingly. Also, resources complimenting these topics are readily available at each level for extra practice. Not only are gaps in knowledge filled at The Academy, but the students are also challenged to move forward with their learning in a subject. It is a pleasure watching the students grow in confidence and readily take on new challenges with each lesson. I am also very grateful to work with other instructors who care both about results and the overall student experience.

I have attended the Academy since I was in junior kindergarten. My experience with the teachers and manager was absolutely wonderful as they have helped me strengthen my weaknesses and enhance my strengths. The Academy provided me with many helpful resources to fully understand concepts taught in school and they also helped me study ahead to feel more comfortable with the curricular content. In general, the atmosphere at the academy is very positive and safe for students seeking to improve their grades. Thanks to the Academy, I have encountered success in my school life such as winning provincial awards and getting accepted into universities. I strongly recommend to students, regardless of their grade, to join the Academy because they will certainly receive many benefits and enjoy learning!
