  I am one of two POA's for an elderly lady who had been living on her own but due to medical issues that affected her both physically and mentally she had to go into hospital for almost 2 months. During this time, although she was recovering, we deemed it was simply not safe for her to move back and live on her own . . . . CCAC are simply unable to provide enough coverage and 12-24 hour/day in-home care gets incredibly expensive. After visiting a few private care facilities (government facilities have very long waiting lists) I was most impressed by Sunrise, the cleanliness and maintenance of their properties and the professionalism of the staff. We were highly fortunate that a room came available just as she about to be discharged from hospital. It was a difficult job persuading her that moving to a place like Sunrise would provide her with all the support she would need to continue her recovery. Within a month her improvement was just incredible both physically but especially mentally. After considering the option of moving back to her apartment to live on her own she has decided to stay at Sunrise for at least for another few months - the truth is she is very well looked after with all meals provided plus laundry and cleaning done (it is like being on a cruise ship) so this may end up being permanent. Overall it has been a great experience. It is not cheap but like everything in life - you generally get what you pay for.

  After 15 years with Alzheimers and being cared for at home, Mom had such a rapid decline that the CCAC had not yet approved her for the crisis list, but we had to find somewhere fast as it had suddenly become too dangerous to keep her at home any longer. Sunrise in Oakville was that beacon of light in the darkness! Within a few short days Mom was safe and secure on their 'Memory Care' floor. That was only the beginning though of the care, concern and professionalism shown by the management and staff. Our heartfelt thanks to everyone at this wonderful place, but especially to Bas Eldajani, Executive Director and to Andrea Simmill, Reminiscence Coordinator and all of the amazing staff on the 4th floor. Their dedication and compassion, visible every day, was truly remarkable and we will always remember their kindness.
