(December 22, 2018, 2:40 pm)I've been a member of this church for over 30yrs. In terms of SDA churches, Benjamin St SDA was Ottawa's original church, out of which others have formed. The services are in English although if you come early enough you may be able to catch a lesson study in French as well. The people can be warm and friendly; however, keep in mind that the average age of the congregation is approx 40+, meaning you may also encounter a more traditional valued mindset, so come with an open mind and don't expect perfection. There is however a healthy youth and young adult population and is a great place for new students to attend, if comradery and socialization is what you're looking for.
During music hour there will often be live music with drums, bass guitar, piano and organ combined to make a pleasant experience ranging from popular praise and worship songs to more traditional hymns.
From start to finish (i.e. 9:30am to 1:30pm) if you stay for the entire service expect to spend at least 4hrs or so. Afterwards there is often a (vegetarian) lunch offered prepared by the kitchen staff, and honestly it's generally quite good; however, if you're not used to vegetarian cooking be prepared for a little less sodium than you may be used to. Again, come with an open mind and don't expect a perfect 3 Michelin star experience.
All in all Benjamin St SDA Church is a great place to come if you are looking for answers to a burning spiritual question or desire to experience worship and praise. Whatever your quest is, never look towards others for your fulfilment, instead ask Jesus into your heart and come as you are; having done that, then you may find Benjamin St SDA to be a haven of spiritual discovery. -
