The Green Needle

The basic sewing class with Ludmila was great! The course covered everything from how to thread the machine all the way up to constructing my first garment (cozy pj pants!). In addition to learning lots of key skills and terminology, Ludmila provided great advice and connections for machine repairs and fabric/notions purchasing. I feel like I know where to start now in order to tackle my own projects, and I look forward to taking more classes at the Green Needle.

My son has taken several courses (Kid's Beginner and Advanced as well as some personal projects) with Lucy over a few years now and he absolutely loves them. He keeps returning to work with her time and again as not only is he gaining a valuable skill but he enjoys Lucy's personality and teaching style as well! He even inspired me to sign up for a course, which was wonderful. I learned a ton from the Clothing Alterations course and would recommend Lucy's classes to anyone, from the novice like myself that is just looking to save some money on alterations, to someone who wants to pursue a career in the clothing industry. Lucy is the best!

Just finished the Sewing Basics class. It was great! I started out a complete beginner (never having used a sewing machine), and learned so much. Ludmila is a fantastic teacher! I loved hearing her stories, seeing her creations, and learning her tips from years of experience. I highly recommend this course. You'll be learning from a Master and will finish the very thorough course having such a solid foundation.

I’ve always wanted to learn to sew my own clothing which is why I was so pleased to find the Green Needle!

I started with the Alterations Course, which was slightly too advanced for me as a complete beginner sewer. I took the beginner’s class next and enjoyed the foundation it gave me.

Ludmila pushed me to express myself creatively, be exacting and think logically about how to construct clothing and other pieces. She was always encouraging and witty, which made classes fun and entertaining as well as highly educational. Her classes have inspired me to continue to alter my own clothing and I can’t wait to take other classes in the future.

If I were to give one suggestion, it would be to have more classes to bridge between the beginner’s class and the alteration class!

Ludmila is a skilled and passionate seamstress. I really enjoyed her basic sewing skills class although I was a complete beginner and I was really intimidated by the idea of sewing! I understood how to use a sewing machine, different stitch types, different fabrics and what they’re used for, different threads and needles and what they are used for, how to use a design pattern, how to determine grain of fabric, and many other things! I feel like I can take on my own projects now. It was a fantastic course. Highly recommend it!
