(June 21, 2019, 2:19 pm)For me, poke bowls should satisfy a sushi craving. I recently went to Pon-Zu with a friend. I had a bowl with sushi white rice, Buddha sauce (wasabi tones), salmon and a bunch of mixed-in ingredients (e.g. pickled ginger, seaweed salad, kimchi, mango, etc). My bowl was very good. It tasted like sushi in a bowl. I recommend getting wontons in the bowl as it resembles the the crunch of tempura bits in sushi.
My friend had saba noodles instead of rice for their bowl. The noodles were cold and unappetizing. We both agreed that the rice was a MUCH better choice than the noodles. The chunks of salmon, while good, were cut too large which didn't create an ideal texture experience.
We'd go back, but not order the noodles and we'd ask to have the salmon chunks cut smaller, or order a different protein.
