Host is a very friendly guy and food is always good. We always meet a young guy who greets us with smile and even remembers what we usually order. Location is great as well.

Be aware: this place takes cash only, but there’s an ATM in the restaurant.
This place is a must for any time we have family visiting in town. Some of the best fish and chips on the Avalon Peninsula. The staff are friendly and accommodating.

The building is comfortable for the crowd that shows up in slow season, when there’s no tourists. The patio is available for extra seating in the tourist season when a summer’s day allows for enjoying the breeze coming off the bay. The few times we’ve had to wait for seating, it’s never taken very long.

The view is amazing, and on a hot summer’s day last year there were kids jumping off the dock into the water. Sometimes there are fishermen cleaning their catch on the wharf. It’s a nice small-town community feel as you see folks launching their boats or pulling them up on the trailer, heading out into the bay for the food fishery, and see people hauling their catch onto the docks.

I heard about this place from a group who goes there regularly. It's a quick half hour drive from St. John's NL. There's a good amount of parking and it is clearly a favorite of the locals and those who are on their way to Bell Island. If you arrive early you can grab a table on the deck and have a great view of the water and the island. They have a good selections of drinks to choose from.
The fish and chips are obviously phenomenal. They are tasty and high quality. The only way to improve would be for them to start making their own tartar sauce. Otherwise this is worth the short journey out of town. Don't sleep on this great local restaurant!

Greeted with blank stare, place an order, say debit please only to be told yeah we don't take debit,ATM behind ya. Food was cooked in well left over dirty burnt oil, fish and chicken all alike, fish still had scales, Poutine wrapped in paper towels, with wax paper peeling off all the cheese, placed in bag upside down.

FoodQuestSTJOHNS: By the Beach - Fish n' chips

Crispy, light, tempura-like batter coating fresh Atlantic cod with a pile-o-fries. Yum! One side green peas. One side gravy. One side.. breadcrumb & savory mix (I can't remember what it's called but it does have a name).
