First time customer and I am blown away by the knowledge and kindness Smokey gave me today. Recently I had a bad experience with Swicked Cycles in Campbell River so I decided to get on the ferry and bring my bike to Smokey’s repair shop and training school. He had my bike fixed the same day and hardly charged me anything at all. Not only that but Smokey helped educate me on some basic routine maintenance and answered all my questions about the bike I had due to not riding for the last 8 years. If I could give 6 stars i would. No brainer to bring your bikes here for honest and genuine help.

Smokey's bike shop is a hidden gem. Super helpful, explains any issues they found and is super fair pricing. Well stocked for a small island shop. It's hard to find a shop I like, but this is a great place to bring your steed

Georgia and Smokey are total gems. We came in with a totally busted wheel on a bike tour and they sorted us out perfectly! My Dad and I thoroughly enjoyed chatting with both of them and hearing many of their stories. They did an awesome job on the wheel repairs and we are super grateful!! Arlo (the pup!) also very lovely.

Aristotle discerns two traits in learning. Techne and Phronesis. The first one is evident: technique in other words to follow an algorithm of instructions. It implies rule following. The latter however, is about owning the sprit of the knowledge. To find out not only what it is but why, how and what it isn’t. Undoubtedly Smokey is Aristotle and Heracleitos of the bicycle mechanics together.

At Smokey’s course there is ample opportunity to gain solid knowledge. He will teach a bewildering wealth of how-tos and let you have your own trial and errors and to philosophize over what you have learned. He is a very friendly person too. He is certainly one of the handful highly interesting people I met in Canada.

This course is a total experience that revolves around bicycles but there is much more. It certainly helped me to acquire a whole new edge.

I spent five weeks at Smokey's shop learning and working under his experience, same class as Ben Herrington, who happened to review negatively. It was an incredible experience worth every dime. Not only does Smokey explain the fundamental skills required to work on bikes and keep them in tip top shape, you get an actual practical working experience over a 2-3 week period. The residence was nice as well, and Smokey made sure to check it on several occasions to ensure it was livable and everything was in working order. I have since been hired as a shop mechanic and have furthered my studies and obtained more experience along the way and taking more certification courses that were much less comprehensive than this one. You also learn about bicycle history, and much more, and many texts and insightful reads on bike mechanics are available at your residence. In short, if you are considering this program, just do it, it is the best option for aspiring bike techs, much more interactive than The Bike Room, and on top of it an incredible experience across a wider span of time altogether. It is definitely a program where you get out the amount you are willing to put in, and if you work hard you will be rewarded!
