(July 30, 2022, 6:15 am)This ferry will take you to Protection Island. It costs $12 for return trip. The staff are friendly. It is a quick trip to the island. I saw Barbour seals on the way to the island. The waiting area is stuffy and crowded.

(May 20, 2018, 3:15 pm)When you visit Vancouver Island it's a must to explore Nanaimo. It sits in the middle of all things to do for the adventurous. Protection Island & The Dinghy Dock Pub sit across the Harbour but only accessible by boat.
The Protection Island Ferry is about a ten minute ride across the calm Harbour waters. An enjoyable way to travel to see the Island and possibly a real life Pirate. The Foot Ferries are well maintained and clean.
I highly recommend an Adventure across Nanaimo's Harbour in a Protection Island Ferry.
