We used Hemlock back in May to paint the interior 3rd floor walls of our newly purchased townhouse (without furniture). We only hired them for the walls, not the trim or ceilings.

Hemlock responded quickly to my request for a quote, and Paul came the next day. I was very impressed with his knowledge and professionalism. Because of this, I decided to go ahead with Hemlock, making the wrong assumption that people like Paul would be the ones painting my townhouse.

The crew that came were nice and professional when I met them on the first day. Overall, they did a good job until I took a closer look. When they were cleaning up on the second day of the paint job, I noticed that there were several issues with their paint job, listed below:
    1) The wall paint closest to the ceiling wasn't done in a straight line. They told me this was because of the previous painters and that it was made more obvious because they tried to cover it. They also said that they normally paint the trim, ceilings and walls altogether and if I wanted to to look cleaner, I should've hired them to do everything at once. They agreed to help me fix this by caulking the contact between the ceiling and the wall, which I appreciated since it really bothered me. They did a good job of fixing this.
    2) Some of the paint on my trim was ripped off from the painter's tape they used. The crew member told me that it would take a few hours for him to fix it, so instead I should let Elliott know and he'll send someone to fix it for me. He also told me that I shouldn't have painted the trim a few days before they came (I told Elliott about how I painted the trim and he said it would be fine.) I found this to be quite lazy of the crew member but I didn't want to push him further. The crew ended up finishing their job around 1pm on the second day.
    3) There were several marks on multiple areas of my trim where it looked like an object hit it (I'm assuming a ladder or something hard, since it dented my trim board). I only noticed this after they had already left.
    4) There was some paint left on the floor, in the kitchen sink where they were cleaning off the paint supplies, on the trim, and I think they were in a rush so they ended up leaving some of their supplies around the house (gloves, caulk, etc.).

I did tell Elliott about these issues and he offered me a small discount to say sorry or to send someone to fix these problems (I took the discount given my experience with them). I genuinely liked the people who were "higher up" in the company, like Elliott and Paul, but I found that the workers they hired did not do the job I was expecting. They made excuses for the issues I listed above.

I think the real issue for me was that one of them left a giant pile of poop in one of our washroom toilets. Since we weren't living in the place at the time, we didn't find it until two weeks later. You can probably imagine how that went - it was bad enough that I couldn't flush it down. Elliott did offer to send a cleaner over (again which I appreciate but declined), but I really wish that the workers he hired were more thorough with their cleanup job. It also explains why they were in a rush to leave - I'm assuming one of them had a bad case of diarrhea on the second day. From the sounds of it, my experience isn't a usual occurrence with Hemlock Painting. I just thought this would be a good FYI for anyone looking around.

Massive shoutout to Elliot, Paul, Z and his crew! From initial estimate to completion, it’s been an absolute pleasure working with Hemlock Painting. After extensively researching up and interviewing multiple local painting companies, my wife and I decided to proceed with Hemlock and couldn’t be more thrilled with our decision. Our expectations were smashed out of the park after seeing the final product of our freshly painted condo. It’s challenging to find individuals willing to go the extra mile and no corner was cut here. Hemlocks’ attention to detail and overall quality delivery is on a completely different level. If you’re looking for the best of the best at a competitive price, look no further. Elliot and his team will have you covered. Plan on spreading the word to all our friends and family. Highly recommended!

Hemlock did an excellent job painting our entire condo--they were clean, professional, and super responsive. When we added some extra scope to the work right before the start date they were able to accommodate and any questions we had along the way and after the job, they responded quickly and professionally. We have no hesitation recommending them to anyone looking for quality work!

I found the work crew from Hemlock Painting to be very friendly, pleasant, professional and well organized. The work of repairing large and small holes from a previous plumbing and electrical job in the drywalls of the house was seamless. I am very impressed and satisfied with the quality and quick time in which the work was done. To finish off, they cleaned up the place very nicely, making it a pleasure to walk into. I would not hesitate to recommend Hemlock Painting to anyone and I would use them again in the future.

There are many painting companies to choose from in Vancouver but a recommendation from a friend who had recently had their place painted by Hemlock and were very happy with the results was all we needed to proceed. Hemlock Painting is a very professional company and the work they did to paint all our walls, ceilings and floorboards was outstanding. Could not recommend them highly enough!
