I have two Yamaha Alto Saxophones that I took to Vahik for servicing. One is a YAS 62 (professional instrument) in pristine condition for its age. In addition to key adjustment, Vahik replaced a roller on the Eb key, changed several pads, and cleaned the neck, which virtually returned this sax to like new condition.
The second alto is a YAS 23 (student instrument) that was in fairly rough condition, as it has been played by many people over its 35 or so years. I was somewhat hesitant to spend any money on it but thought there's no sense in having a horn that really doesn't work. Vahik appraised it and said Yamahas are excellent horns and yes it's worth working on, despite its condition. His initial examination and estimate was around $200 and he went to work on it. When I picked it up he explained everything he had done, including straightening a bent neck and that he was sure the horn would continue to provide good playability, no leaks, etc. Anyway, Vahik came in on budget and when I got home I had to try this old horn out. Wow! I was blown away (pardon the pun). This old workhorse played like new. I tried various mouthpieces on it and I have to say it is a pleasure to play and it won't just sit, neglected, under the bed.
Vahik takes his time to explain what he needs to do to bring your instrument back to an excellent playing standard. If anything changes from his initial review with you, he will call and explain his findings. His work ethic and skill, in my humble opinion, are top notch and I won't hesitate to take another instrument to him when the time comes.

Can't find a more knowledgable repair technician in Vancouver who also buys and sells new and used musical instruments. Extremely, highly recommended!! Had my flute recently acid bathed and pads changed and it looks brand new!! Had my flute appraised too!! Will never waste my time going to any other shop in Vancouver. One stop shop!!
