Good selection

Royal Liquor Merchants is a small liquor store located in a mini-plaza/strip-mall area right on Elbow Dr (Haysboro Plaza). in the community of Haysboro. I thought they were just a one-off, but a quick Google search shows there are actually 3 other locations in Calgary, so they probably have a little more buying power and resources behind them compared to some other independent liquor stores. Nonetheless, their selection/inventory is still limited given the small store size. As one of the other reviewers mentioned they have a decent beer and cider selection, not so much in the craft beer department but they do a decent job keeping up with seasonal beer stocks. Hard liquor selection is good as well, just not much in the premium department. Wine selection is small but adequate.

Staff here have always been nice anytime I’ve popped in, they never give me much grief and usually make some effort to be friendly or conversational. I think this is necessary for a smaller store as you tend to remember the experience more. Prices are on the higher side, but there are some deals that are usually located near the front.

Drop by if it’s convenient, driving to a bigger chain store to save $1-2 really isn’t worth it if you’re nearby, these guys will likely treat you better too. Other than that it’s not a store to really go out of your for, as a liquor store it’s just adequate.
